Yes, I plan to mention to talk about Helen and detective fiction at greater length next week. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-21706416940774946542017-06-05T15:20:35.942-07:002017-06-05T15:20:35.942-07:00I'm delighted that someone else has broached t...I'm delighted that someone else has broached the topic of the Silver Age of Detective Fiction, a phrase I'd previously only heard in my head. To me it speaks of a time when classic-style detective fiction was still producing a goodly number of books and even new protagonists, even as subgenres like hardboiled and international thrillers had grabbed the spotlight. Rex Stout was well-suited to this new era, partly because the Nero Wolfe books had always been a hybrid.

My best wishes to your father.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06590397694589547524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-35751059111272300902017-06-03T04:32:50.513-07:002017-06-03T04:32:50.513-07:00Always glad to see Garve remembered.
You may be ...Always glad to see Garve remembered.

You may be interested to look at a piece I originally wrote about Garve for the Literary Encyclopedia, concentrating on the books which dealt with Soviet Russia.

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/wordscape/Andrew%20Garve.htm

Apart from the ones you mention, three other outstanding Garve books are The Megstone Plot (filmed as A Touch of Larceny with James Mason), The Sea Monks, and Home to Roost. I enjoy an Andrew Garve book now and again, though haven't read the ones you mention: will look out for them.
Look forward to reading more from you about Helen: for the benefit of other readers - we have been remembering her in our Tuesday Night Club posts this month.Clothes In Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680610242823846662noreply@blogger.com
