Is it mostly ageing Baby Boomers with fond memories of devouring Agatha Christie paperbacks during their formative years? Or are these books being bought by Millennial urban hipsters?

I'd also love to know the breakdown of readers by sex.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-35857325513492327342016-02-11T11:35:25.608-08:002016-02-11T11:35:25.608-08:00I'm anxious now to compare the film with the b...I'm anxious now to compare the film with the book! The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-83218528877371781622016-02-11T11:34:58.975-08:002016-02-11T11:34:58.975-08:00Yes, I'm really sorry he never wrote The Corne...Yes, I'm really sorry he never wrote The Cornell Murders. Best not to get me started on the NH primary, though. ;) However, I will have a vintage political mystery of sorts coming up soon. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-68822509113938010942016-02-11T11:31:05.404-08:002016-02-11T11:31:05.404-08:00Yes, John, I agree with you, Dartmouth is more mun...Yes, John, I agree with you, Dartmouth is more mundane compared to Wailing Rock. Given the horrible murders, it's a bit too much on the sedate side. But Orr must have been reading some Carr by the time he wrote Wailing Rock, because he gets the atmospheres down much more. One thing in favor of Dartmouth is that it's a short novel of about 60,000 words and it does not, for me anyway, overstay its welcome. Lament for a Maker has much more to wade through! The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-68208995847424730592016-02-10T21:43:17.770-08:002016-02-10T21:43:17.770-08:00I liked THE WAILING ROCK MURDERS a lot, and I bet ...I liked THE WAILING ROCK MURDERS a lot, and I bet there will be a lot of fans of that one since it has an interesting impossible crime. I predict comparisons to early John Dickson Carr for its eerie atmosphere, very odd detective, and the locked room bit. But I have never managed to finish this one. I tried twice! Compared to the weirdness of WAILING ROCK Orr's debut was just too mundane. Should I try a third time? I don't want another experience like I had with LAMENT FOR A MAKER. I'll probably *never* finish that book.J F Norrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06473487417479127354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-16324827155303741432016-02-10T03:48:07.483-08:002016-02-10T03:48:07.483-08:00Writing from Orford, New Hampshire on the day afte...Writing from Orford, New Hampshire on the day after the primary. Even 1935 looks pretty good this morning. Just to clarify for those who don't know Dartmouth, "North Mass" is North Massachusetts Hall. Dartmouth students only look like a seething mass. There are actually a lot of very nice individuals in there.Heidi Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11056125566857860617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-11043576297636945872016-02-10T01:20:01.781-08:002016-02-10T01:20:01.781-08:00Hi Curt - I'm trying to reach you by email, bu...Hi Curt - I'm trying to reach you by email, but messages to the email address I have for you are bouncing. A strange story in many respects. Thanks for calling it to mind; I'll have to see if I can dig up my copy!

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
