That's a very unhealthy idea.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-22678870353433060752015-10-06T10:12:45.468-07:002015-10-06T10:12:45.468-07:00Another one I hope to see reprinted, Peggy Ann!Another one I hope to see reprinted, Peggy Ann!The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-37877030945201016612015-10-06T10:12:12.604-07:002015-10-06T10:12:12.604-07:00Thanks, Scott, that would be great. I may be able to turn up something more on M...Curt. I may be able to turn up something more on Mary Kelly next week as I am visiting the Centre for Research Collections at University of Edinburgh. I went to Edinburgh in the 70s and read Kelly's 'Dead Man's Riddle' set in the University with interest, Kelly was a graduate there and I am sure the Unversity must have some records, possibly also in the alumni publications which often feature successful alumni's biographies. Dead man's Riddle focuses on University elections and when I was there, there was a great controversy as a student was elected to be Rector of the University for the first and only time - the Senate changed the election rules to disallow this in future after the student rector upset many of the academics with quite radical changes. His name was Gordon Brown and he gained greater fame later ....

Incidentally some of the article refer to Kelly as Scottish but i see no evidence of that - Kelly and her maiden name are both Irish origin, she was educated at a Catholic School and she was born in London, so I would guess she was English of Irish descent. I think graduating at Edinburgh has misled the article writers. At the time Edinburgh was known for its Medical and Legal excellence so quite possible that she studied one of these.

Edinburgh University has produced an impressive list of crime authors : Elizabeth X Ferrars, Ian Rankin, Mary Kelly, Stella Rimington, Catriona MacPherson, Gillian Galbraith,, Alexander McCall Smith, William Mutch

Not too mention one Arthur Conan Doyle....
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15953014580424034894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-13093973788881812702015-10-05T17:06:01.689-07:002015-10-05T17:06:01.689-07:00Thanks for highlighting another forgotten author f...Thanks for highlighting another forgotten author for me to look for! I'm all for variety. Sometimes I'm in the mood for angst, sometimes for charm. Writers should feel free to write what suits them. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-57177129101865396952015-10-04T22:08:13.964-07:002015-10-04T22:08:13.964-07:00I've never understood why modern has to mean a...I've never understood why modern has to mean angst-filled.
