I do think these prolific authors, like Street, Rivett, Bush, etc. are well suited to publishing in full as eBooks, but certainly BL gets them a lot of publicity (for all I know more people may now know Doriel Hay than Dickson Carr) and they are always attractively mounted editions.

Rivett was always very popular with collectors and I am sure she will find a new audience, as will Bush. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137677673775151256.post-7861629384244636872017-09-24T09:56:16.826-07:002017-09-24T09:56:16.826-07:00I have a hardcover copy in jacket of "The Cas...I have a hardcover copy in jacket of "The Case of the First Class Carriage" published by "The Thriller Book Club" in 1942, three years after the first edition. I'm suffering a bit of it myself.
I must add that I agree with you re "Murder in Chelsea"; I have read it one month ago and found it surprisingly fresh, surely better than "The Organ Speaks", another book that I own and have read, but I still believe that Sayers was unduly generous in her review. An early Lorac that has eluded my research till now is "Murder in St. John's Wood", one of her best according to Barzun and Taylor. I shall repeat it here, then, and add my thanks for the superb detail you've included above. I've only read two of the Ramble House Loracs, but she strikes me as someone who had an interesting approach to what should have been standard and forgettable GAD also-ran plots, and I'd be delighted if anyone undertook the republishing of her work in any meaningful way. When you say "I was attempting to get all of her books reprinted," I hope it's not an undertaking consiged to the past...

The Cristopher Bush books sound excellent, too, and I'll repeat my thanks here for the work you and DSP are doing. In contrast arguably with several other GA writers, some of her 50s titles are as good as her earlier ones from the GA proper, I think.

I had really hoped The Organ Speaks would be one of the titles reprinted, Sayers is do high on it, but Martin sounded disappointed with it. I'll tell you about Bats in the Belfry. I managed to find that in hardcover, a Collins edition, about fifteen years ago, and eagerly read, despite the criticism from Barzun & Taylor, but I decided B&T were right. I'll be interested in what you have to say. All I can say is I spotted the murderer very very quickly. I thought the misdirection technique flawed here. In my collection there are many first editions of this writer (the vast majority), but some titles (especially those published as Carol Carnac by Skeffington and Peter Davies) are rare indeed. I still have to find someone who owns a copy of "The Missing Rope" for example.
Did you find a photo of the author in her mature age? The only photo of her I ever found (not very clear, I admit) is the one I gave Geoff Bradley ford CADS and that Martin Edwards then published in the second edition of his book about the Golden Age.
Keep up your wonderful job, Curt (or maybe more a mission than a job)!
Mauro Boncompagnihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03969421615204482138noreply@blogger.com
