Moray Dalton reprints 2023

It's been a while now, but a new group of Moray Dalton reprints is coming in the spring of 2023, to be followed, I hope, by another group in the winter.  I wanted to go chronologically with the remaining books in the Inspector Hugh Collier series, and now this is what we are going to do!  The first group coming (I'm just finishing the introductions now) will be:

Inspector Hugh Collier Series

The Mystery of the Kneeling Woman (1936) Hugh Collier #7

Death in the Dark (1938) Hugh Collier #8

Death in the Forest (1939) Hugh Collier #9

Nonseries

The Murder of Eve (1945)

Death at the Villa (1946)

The next group will be:

Inspector Hugh Collier series

The Price of Silence (1939) Hugh Collier #10

The Longbridge Murders (1945) Hugh Collier #12

The Case of the Dark Stranger (1948) Hugh Collier #14

Inquest on Miriam (1949) Hugh Collier #15

Death of a Spinster (1951) Hugh Collier #16

The first six Hugh Collier detective novels, along with The Art School Murders (1943), Collier #11, and The Condamine Case (1947), Collier #13, have been reprinted already.

I'm hoping for one more group of nonseries Dalton mysteries for 2024, including a certain much requested title!

I'll have more to say soon about the individual titles in the next group of Daltons.  I very much enjoyed reading them.

  1. "...including a certain much requested title!"

    1. Wonderful news . Dalton is right up there with some of the very best of all the reissues of the last 10 years. Also ,full marks to DSP for their policy of doing entire " runs " of authors' works ; it allows the readers to decide which may be the good and the not so good.

The dust jacket for Dark Stranger looks amazing ; maybe a cross between Roland Penrose/ Paul Nash and Salvador Dali .

    2. Yes, I love that jacket. Actually have it, one of the few MD jackets I do have. I do like her because she dares to be different. A smart writer, to me unaccountably neglected.

  2. I am also very pleased to hear that more Moray Dalton books are to be reprinted. However, I am confused as to just which books are to be reissued. According to Hubin, the fourth Hugh Collier book is "The Harvest of Tares" but this has not yet appeared, so far as I know and is not mentioned by you. On the other hand, "The Price of Silence", which is listed, is not (again, according to Hubin) a Hugh Collier novel.

On a different matter, did you know that the first two of Dalton's books have been re-issued in paperback? Both have been printed by Spitfire Publishers and the books are described as made in the USA, Las Vegas NV. The appearance is similar to the British Library reprints, but in a larger format. The books are only listed on American and Canadian Amazon but only the first of these will sell to the UK. Price $25 approx including postage. Both books are included on the Bookfinder.com site, which is where I came across them.

    1. Yes, Hubin is wrong: Tares is non-series, Silence is series. I have personally verified this.

    2. I think Spitfire has reprinted the first four (non-series) Moray Dalton novels now. None of those had been reprinted by DSP.

  3. Really looking forward to the remaining volumes - thank you. However, I may be mistaken, but doesn't 'Death in the Cup' also feature Inspector Collier?
